Consumers are unreasonable – but they're not stupid. We all like to think we make rational choices. But thirty years' of research has shown that what we actually do is make instinctive, 'gut' choices and then reverse engineer a set of rational criteria to justify that choice in order to fool ourselves into believing that we are not being unreasonable. The funny thing is that those gut choices consumers make are often better than the ones they make when they actively and rationally consider their options. In other words – consumers are sensibly unreasonable. The problem is that a lot of marketing is reasonable – but stupid.

Why does every marketing brochure include a list of features and benefits that are based on the assumption that consumers are making a logical, cognitive choice? We know that they are not, but we keep doing it! By concentrating on providing cognitive solutions to emotional needs, marketing is trying to solve the wrong problem. What matters is how customers feel. You need to understand what makes consumers behave a certain way and then use that knowledge to shape the experience you deliver to the customer.

A users guide

Clayton et al have produced a useful guide that goes beyond the material usually taught at UG level. It will be helpful to both practicing engineers and to those on Masters level courses looking for a greater depth of theory and examples of applications. The book is well-ordered, assuming little prior knowledge but goes close to the limits of current theory and practice. It has a range of worked examples which are helpful to both students and practioners as well as clear graphics to illustrate problems. A useful book to have on the shelf for those more difficult design cases or to extend your knowledge of the subject. It is now a little dated in terms of the latest materials and computer analysis techniques but still provides essential background theory for all.

Because really, what have we got to show for it? Nothing but infinite license to put who and what we want in our bodies, while our freedoms to speak, to think, to dream, and to build get more limited every day. We’ve decided to fall backwards off the shoulders of giants, and that fall probably feels good, until you realize there’s going to be a “splat” at the end.

So with the ground of reality rushing up at them, more and more young people are clawing for anything to stop their feelings of personal, ethical, political, intellectual and artistic failure. And the rotted timber of progressivism is increasingly failing to break their fall. So eventually, they turn elsewhere.

And so, a steadily increasing number of millennials are finally beginning to wake up to the choice we face as a civilization, and to the value they’ve so long overlooked in traditional standards of morality and beauty. They are wondering: is modern culture really so great if it means we substitute Meghan Trainor for Mozart, Emma Sulkowicz for Da Vinci, or Bell Hooks for Plato? Is it really such a step forward that our civilization, which once shed both blood and ink debating Martin Luther’s 95 Theses, is now reduced to considering theses like VICE Magazine’s “Dear Straight Guys: It’s Time to Start Putting Things In Your Butt?” Is this all there is, or can we do better?

No, it isn’t, and yes, we can and must do better. Sure, it’ll be hard for us to dig ourselves out of the pit that the left-wing indoctrination and media machines has dug for everyone our age. But it’s work worth doing. Because right now, the world is on fire. And while my generation didn’t start the fire, with apologies to Billy Joel, I believe we have a chance to contain it, or even put it out.

But first we have to expose the frauds, liars, idiots, and above all, barbarians who threw gas on it. So without further ado, let’s get to naming those names.

However, much of her language is unnecessarily incendiary and I doubt that anyone who does not already agree with her will be swayed. She should have stayed with presenting the facts as they are as they speak for themselves. No need to call names. That is what the left does!

31 Spring Designs based on original watercolor artwork by Teresa Goodridge – printed one side of the page

[[VIDEOID:ad3c63753f87c422ce30050d750ee0be]]I own the two previous books in this series by Teresa Goodridge (Winter and Summer) and have found the Spring book to be an improvement over both. While the colored samples are still pictures of the original watercolor artwork rather than colored samples of the actual designs in the book, the problems with the tiny details (especially on faces) is much improved in this book. Details are more finished (less open ended, sketchy type details.) Coloring in it is easier as well as being able to use more types of coloring medium with larger nibs.

The designs are quite lovely with lots of spring themes. There are flowers, birds, outdoor scenes with fun activities like kite flying, walking in the part, riding bicycles, and shopping in an open-air market. The designs are quite detailed and do contain intricate and small areas to color. It is not a book that I would recommend to anyone with fine motor or vision issues.

I noticed that the feel of the paper is slightly rougher than other Creative Haven books I have ordered in this last six months or so. I like the new texture as it is even better for use with colored pencils.

This is what I experienced while coloring in this book and testing the paper with my coloring medium.

31 Spring inspired Designs

The designs are printed one side of the page

Paper is the usual Creative Haven quality: white, medium weight, slightly rough and has perforated pages.

Glue Binding but with perforated pages so removing a page is fairly simple.

The designs stop well before the perforations and each of the designs has a framing line at the outer edge.

Alcohol-based markers bleed through this paper

Water-based markers bleed through in spots and show colorful shadows on the back of the page

Gel pens and India ink pens leave shadows of color on the back of the page. India ink pens can bleed through when I apply more than one layer of ink.

Coloring pencils work well with this paper and even better than many of the more recent Creative Haven coloring books I have bought. I was able to get good pigment (color) lay down, layer the same color and multiple colors and to blend easily using a pencil style blender. I tested both oil and wax-based pencils with similar results. Hard lead pencils, like Verithins, leave dents on the back of the page.

I suggest either removing pages from the book to color or using a blotter page under your working page. I like card stock as it keeps ink from seeping through and damaging the pages below.

loving the book

I just received my book today. I love it and can't wait to color the pages. There are 31 pages to color in the book. Out of the 31 pages there are 25 pages that I love. I have a lot of books and normally don't usually have that many pages in the whole book that I want to color. The pictures are on sheet alone. the sheets are easy to tear out. The sheets are thick enough that I will be able to use my sharpies.

A Taste of Spring to color your mood light.

This is a delightful taste of Spring. Some pictures are a bit detailed but most are just what you need to help pull you out of the doldrums. I'm aching for Spring to come and this is helping my mood. Pictures are beautiful and a nice variety of Spring scenes.

About the Author
A highly respected professional photographer and freelance author, David Wyman brings a vivid passion to his photography and inspires an unmatched level of enthusiasm with readers. Forty odd years ago at the tender age of ten I was amazed by the work of Ansel Adams.

So grew a lifelong fascination with the medium.

Discovering Dave Wymans’s new book – ‘Fearless Photographer Nature’ was indeed serendipitous.

A skilled story teller, photographic artist, adventurer, philosopher and poet, the author is unique in the modern digital world.

Dave interweaves his technical mastery and professional tips with fascinating stories tinged with the brilliant insights his many followers have dubbed ‘Wymanesque’.

Opening the book at random we see the universe reflected in a puddle.

In another - a young girl is photographed touching the inside of a waterfall, light dancing on her awe struck face.

An orchid is silhouetted against an eclipsed moon.

The magnificent Half Dome in Yosemite is framed by an oak, the bough of the tree mirrors the face of the rock making the image appear like a jig saw puzzle.

Perhaps my favourite photo is of the Black Bear, rising on it’s hind legs, staring down the lens like a supermodel – roiling autumn coloured bokeh tinging the surface of the page.

It’s hard to know which image I like the most, each one is superb, each accompanying story resonates, makes me think – inspires.

Fearless Photography Nature is destined to become a classic and sits on my bookshelf next to work of other visionaries.

Priceless. Timeless.

The book is a joy to read

Fearless Photographer Nature is a must read. It will propel the beginning photographer far ahead of others as he or she starts a photographic journey. Intermediate photographers are certain to learn new things, and advanced -- even professional photographers -- could gain new insight.

The book is a joy to read. It is presented in an easy-to-read style with iinsets of advice clearly stated outside of the main body of test, There are dozens, perhaps more than 100 outstanding images, illustrating the points Dave Wyman makes in this book. It is written in a way that is simple to understand, yet it has many facts woven in to each chapter.

Wyman also gives many personal anecdotes garnered from decades of professional and personal experiences. As well as filled with wisdom, many of his experiences have left a smile on my face and sometimes I even have laughed out loud. And sometimes I was in awe of his photos.

From landscapes and wildlife to close-up/macro photography, this book provides a treasure of information. . It has an enlightening chapter on reflections, which Wyman has mastered. It even shows the technique of how to make reflections in a person's eyeball. From a bear and a wolf to flowers and frogs -- even a jellyfish with a crab -- Wyman has a multitude of interesting encounters he generously shares. He has respect for all of his subjects and reinforces that in different chapters.

As well as giving basic information, he shows how to break out of the mode of photographing cliches and how to become a fearless photographer while developing your own personal perspective. He engages the human spirit in his photos

Part of the last half of the book, Wyman gives many tips on technical information, optics, depth of field, high dynamic range (HDR), RAW vs. Jpeg, gear, filters, light and traveling with photo equipment plus much more.

The book has a clear table of contents that breaks down each chapter. Therefore, if you want to immediately refer to something of your interest, it is easy to find. There also is a comprehensive index.

I have been making photographs for any years, and not only did I learn some new tips, I am inspired to take on new photo adventures and styles. I strongly recommend this book to any photographer or as a gift to one, You should be thanked many times over.

In this one, Wilson writes definitively, math/scientifically, and with sincerity of purpose. Don't get confused by the word 'theory.' There's as much math in here as Born and Wolf's P of O. The only diffenrence is Wilson's is much more algebra-based. The mathematics (i.e. isomorphs) is 'taught', without breaking the flow, and is not assumed that you know the stuff already--- or can find it somewhere else. This book stands out because there is more science in here than names of scientists, and his references are for real. I would also say it was unique because books with titles like 'Molecular Vibrations' are usually skipped over for titles like 'mechanics' or 'quantum theory.' Spectroscopy was a major advancement in science, and it is good to see it skillfully treated with enlightening clarity.

A MUST HAVE for those dealing with B matrix methods

This is the original work by E.B.Wilson where the G and F matrix formalism is presented. The G matrix, related to kinetic vibrational energy is built uppon the elements of the B matrix defined from "internal coordinates". Many quantum chemistry software packages use this exact methodology to build normal coordinates. For those working on Quantum Chem Molecular Orbital calculations, this book is a must.
