I enjoyed this course very much! The speaker, Professor Gregory Aldrete, kept my interest the entire series AND he paints a picture of battles that places the listener in the middle of the action. As a history enthusiast, it was like picking up an exciting novel of battles fought long ago and finding clues from their mistakes.

I also liked another course done by him which gave loads of content on decisive battles and this is why I decided to listen to History's Great Military Blunders and I was not disappointed. His unique style of setting the scene of these epic clashes kept me listening and wanting to know more and more after each battle.

An easy tale

This is a series of courses, or rather battles, 24 of them in all. The focus is entirely on the persons and actions, leaving out all relevant background information like economy, weapon technology and social issues. I guess this is necessary given the scope of the text, but the result is a slightly light and easy narrative with limited academic feel. That is ok per se, but the narrator’s reading style doesn’t function for me. Professor Aldrete accentuates every third word. It seems to me that he is reading to some weak-minded teenagers with limited attention span and no pre-knowledge of the topics at stake.
This observation is highly subjective and should not put anybody off giving these courses a try. The narrative is dramatic and interesting and the battles depicted often proved to be decisive.

theres one typo error: its actually 1kg= 2.2 pounds***
not 1pound= 2.2 kg
this book is still VERY HELPFUL!!!! id give it 4 stars if it wasent for the typo lol.
i took my test in august 13'.
i used this book for my hesi exam which only had the reading,grammar,vocabulary,and math sections.
i used this website: testprepreview.com
*****i passed my math section with a 100 and my english composite score was also a 100. for the vocab section on the test, there may be words not listed in the book,but u can eliminate some obvious wrong answers.
****for the reading section on the test, the questions are straight forward!
!!!! theres no real way of studying for reading comprehension, i just basically memorized the hesi hints in that study section. memorize your terms for grammar,know ALL the VOCAB listed in the book,the math section had ALOT of subtracting,adding,multiplying and dividing of FRACTIONS,know your percents,KnOW MILITARY TIME. and again KNOW UR FRACTIONS!!! if u dont know how to work on them once,then u wont know how to do them 20 times !!!!math part was very heavy on fractions!!!
also,KNOW ur CONVERSIONS! practice how to convert using test prep website with practice questions in the book.
how i studied:
i made index cards for the hesi hints in reading comprehension, for all vocab terms, for grammar terms and tips, and for math i practiced all the problems OVER AND OVER again. make sure u practice everyday and constantly test urself using each chapter test and APPENDIX TESTS. practice makes perfect!

I just took my HESI admission exam (omg I was dying from stress)! I used this book as a study guide and I passed my HESI test with flying colors. The math and language section are good study tools just on its own. The science sections, you should use it as a skeleton of what you should study. Dive into your past biology/chemistry text books and read up on the subjects they mention in here. The test doesn't seem to go too much in depth and focuses more on the broad subjects. But, every test is different so it might be different for you.

Please don't listen to what anyone says. This book is everything that you need to score 90% and above average on HESI. I just scored 92% and some questions and reading passages were EXACTLY the same from this book. Just make flash cards for the vocab words, grammar terms, and some hard to understand anatomy and do all the practice questions. YOU WILL BE FINE.

Glorifying, Healing, Refreshing

Charlotte Stemple's new work, My Vietnam, provides a God-glorifying, heart-healing, spirit-refreshing view of the spiritual battle that was being waged and won as the physical and political war devastated the nation of Vietnam. This was a battle for the hearts of individuals and the triumph of Christ's Gospel even amid the battle of nations. With her characteristic candor, insight and humor Charlotte weaves into one tapestry the ecstasies and agonies that those war years held for so many. The legacy of Christ's servants--missionaries, some U.S. servicemen, national pastors and believers--is one of love, sacrifice and faithfulness. The book closes with the wonderful news of the thriving, multiplying life of Christ's church after the fall of the South to the communist north. That relatively tiny national church has flourished and grown under the darkness of oppression and proven once again that Christ will build His Church and the enemy's gates will not prevail against it. Read My Vietnam. You'll find yourself recommending it to others just as I now recommend it to you.

My Vietnam

Most Americans only have two views of Vietnam during the 1960's and 70's. One of unbelievable violence of the American War Machine with bombs and dying American boys. Or one of great protest from a growing discontent among the American populace over the war. Mrs Stemple gives a completely different view of what was going on inside Vietnam. A view of the struggle going on from the eyes of the Vietnamese people and Missionaries who worked among them. For over 100 years Alliance Missionaries have lived and died in service of God bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ to people living in South East Asia. This book allows us to go with and experience a little of the Joy's and Sorrow's of living in Vietnam during war time sowing the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the lives and ministry of servants faithful to God's call. This book is a great read and should be read by everyone of God's Children serious about taking the Gospel to lost men and women the world over. This book talks about the sowing time which has produced the Great Harvest that is now going on among the Vietnamese people.

Down-homey and Understandable

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, partly because I know the author and partly because, after living inSoutheast Asian myself, it was written in such a down-homey, understandable way that I could totally identify. I would recommend it to anyone interested in the Vietnam War and anyone interested in missions.

Minimally invasive procedures in general surgery are more amenable to video recordings than the previous generation of open procedures, primarily because it is easy to connect a recording device to a laparoscope.� As a result, instructional videotapes and DVDs have been available for a variety of minimally invasive procedures since the 1990's.� In addition a number of comprehensive yet conventional operative atlases on laparoscopic general surgical procedures have been published.� It seems only natural to combine these two formats, video and illustrated text, into one instructional format, the DVD-atlas.� The Atlas of Minimally Invasive Surgery is a product of this union.� The multimedia aid consists of a conventional operative atlas combines with a set of DVDs that that contain edited video of each procedure described in the book.� The Atlas differs from earlier instructional video/text presentations in that it contains all of the commonly performed laparoscopic procedures in one presentation, whereas previous attempts at this format were monographic and focused on one procedure or one type of procedure.
The Atlas of Minimally Invasive Surgery is not, however meant to be an encyclopedia of every technique described for every type of procedure.� Nor is the Atlas intended to be a platform for experimental surgery (e.g., natural orifice procedures). In planning the Atlas we generated a list of what we believed to be the most commonly performed laparoscopic procedure; for each we asked a primary author to describe the operation.� In truth, there are multiple operative approaches to every procedure in the Atlas. Some are more popular than others; some are easier than others; some are more effective than others; and so forth. Trying to sort out these issues will result in a dialogue that rapidly places the discussants on a "slippery slope" with little controlled data to grab hold to.� We admit that our process for selecting operative procedures and their respective authors to include in the Atlas was not scientific; it was based on impressions we have acquired while observing the evolution of minimally invasive surgery for the past two decades.�
The Atlas of Minimally Invasive Surgery is also not intended to be the authority on procedure performance.� Since there are few of no controlled data in this area, only claim to such authority, but this product or others, would be nonsensical.� The Atlas is merely a guide, a collection of "How I Do It" intended as a teaching aid for medical students, surgical residents, and general surgeons.� It is also a product that should evolve over time, as newer and/or improved techniques become established.� It is our belief, and hope that the DVD-atlas format of the Atlas of Minimally Invasive Surgery will become a favorite teaching aid for laparoscopic operations in general surgery.

About the Author
Dr. Frantzides is the Director of the Chicago Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery;Director of the Laparoscopic and Bariatric Fellowship Program at St. Francis Hospital and professor of surgery at University of Illinois in Chicago. He is recognized worldwide as an expert in the field of laparoscopic surgery and is a charter member of the United States Laparoscopic Founders Society.
His experience in laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery is one of the most extensive in the USA. He has traveled internationally to perform and teach laparoscopic operations. In recognition of his efforts in teaching advanced laparoscopic techniques, he was named Honorary member of the Brazilian Society of Surgery (Colegio Brasileiro de Cirurgia Digestiva), the Hellenic Surgical Association, and the Greek Laparoscopic Society. During the last 19 years, he has organized 31 laparoscopic courses through which 331 surgeons were trained in laparoscopic surgery. He has created the first laparoscopic fellowship program in the United States (1995) for training young surgeons in the art of minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Frantzides is a member of numerous professional societies and has been the recipient of several awards and honors as well as grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and from the surgical industry. Dr. Frantzides has made more than 200 contributions to the medical literature and has written two books on laparoscopic surgery. He was the first in the world to introduce and perform 14 different laparoscopic procedures.
He developed a new safer technique for the laparoscopic gastric bypass ("Triple staple technique" Archives of Surgery, 2003.) Dr. Frantzides was the first surgeon to define and publish the importance of preserving the vagus nerve during a gastric bypass for avoidance of the dumping syndrome. Wonderful atlas

This is a superb book. The artwork quality alone is the best I have seen in any atlas in years. I really appreciate that there is a condensed video that goes with each procedure. The narration is particularly helpful in understanding what is being done at every step of the operation. I have been studying for my general surgery recertification, and the text descriptions of each procedure clearly point out the important evaluation, workup and mechanics of the major general surgical operations. One of the most helpful chapters for me was on hernia repair, particularly the illustrations of the inguinal region. This is probably the best I have seen. Although I do not perform bariatric procedures, I found the chapters on hiatal herniorrhaphy and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass beautifully illustrated with drawings and photographs that complemented the videos. The artist of this book deserves kudos.

After five years as a practicing trauma/critical care surgeon I have recently decided to undergo further training in advanced minimally invasive surgery. Starting this new fellowship required a solid advanced reference in the practice and technique of laparoscopic surgery.
Not only does Dr. Frantzides book provide excellent text in the principles of minimally invasive surgery, but vivid photographs and actual DVD footage of the procedure described in each chapter. The narrative and video are an invaluable resource in grasping the concepts of advanced and basic laparoscopic procedures. I highly recommend it to any practicing surgeon or resident.

Great Reference!

I am a Physician who recently had LAP Gastric Bypass. I bought this book as I wanted to understand my surgery and the post OP course. It's so well written I found myself reading about other surgeries. It's clear and concise and the videos are well done and informative. The post OP data on my LGB was state of the art and consistent with all of the most up to date literature. The synthesis of the info was great.I would highly reccomend this book.
